Sara Fonseca

Sara Fonseca is Portuguese, born in Lisbon. And started training Jiu Jitsu in 2000 with: Prof. Marcello Rosa, Arnaldo PitBull and Marcelo Bernardo. In 2001 when she was a blue belt she started to compete. Bad Boy Cup was her first local tournament. After winning that fight she decided to dedicate herself more to the sport. And represent women in the sport. At that time, it was very rare to see a female presence in any martial arts sport. Especially Jiu-Jitsu. In 2004, she won 1st place at the first IBJJF European Championships. As a blue belt, in Lisbon and continued to participate in this event every year.

In 2009 she started her journey as an instructor in Barcelona, Spain. She received her black belt in 2013. Becoming the first female black belt from her team (Brazilian Power Team) and the second female black belt in the country.

In 2014 she was selected to teach at female Public Schools, BJJ National Team. And was the first female instructor developing the female Jiu-Jitsu Team at Al Wahda Club, in Abu Dhabi, UAE. April 2019 she moved to the United States to be the head coach of the women’s and children’s class at Premier Combat Center, Nebraska. Where she decided to compete again, being IBJJF Pans and World Master’s medalist the last 4 years (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022). In 2022 she decided it was time to open her own Jiu-Jitsu school. Together with her husband and partner Italo Nunes, in Arizona and after more than 20 years finally open her own business.

Her main objective is to change the lives of those who are ready to start the transformation process, as she believes that Jiu-Jitsu changes lives. It changed hers and she wants to encourage other women and empower them with her knowledge.
